For the intellectually-oriented battle of wits –some of Kaligi students excel in the game of Chess. Many Competitions are held at the school and inter school level and championships are won. This is testimony to the immense brain power f young minds who allow themselves to be led and are willing to learn the art of playing intelligently at our Kaligi White Rocks Chess Academy.
Other indoor games like Carroms, Table tennis,etc., are encouraged and trained by special coaches. Roller Skating is so much fun for the Children. Control,balance and ease are learnt on wheels at Jayhind Roller Skating Academy.
Kaligi has the potential to engender many an outstanding sports person. Hidden talents are brought out. Special training in Hand Ball, Throw Ball, Volley Ball, Badminton, Table tennis, Cricket and Athletics is provided. A sound mind in a sound body is its motto.
Cricket is taught to the students professionally at Kaligi Cricket Academy, Kolathur, affiliated to TNCA.
Handwriting plays a vital role in the development of all the students. The school provides the necessary infra-structure in developing the handwriting of the students by the specialists in handwriting. The handwriting period is allotted to improve the students’ handwriting more effectively.
The school has tied up with M/s. GREEN GARDEN CENTER FOR HANDWRITING, Coimbatore for the Handwriting improvement of the students.
Various types of sticks fighting like Silambam are now introduced even for the girls. It is an art of self-defense. Girls enjoy this new privilege at Kaligi. Most of the students have participated and secured various championships at International level, National Level and State level in sports activities. These martial arts provides a thrilling experience for the students. It also disciplines them and gives them confidence. It makes them very alert, active and powerful, both physically and mentally.
We are proud to introduce five new sports activities Takewando,Judo,Boxing,Fencing and Roller Skating. Karate classes are conducted dily form 6.00 a.m to7.00 a.m. It is a treasured form of martial art. It enhances the students’ self-discipline and concentration.
Kaligi places great emphasis on discipline. So one won’t be surprised to know that Yoga is a part of the curriculum. A special Yoga Master is appointed to handle these sessions in a systematic and orderly fashion. The minds of children are thus relaxed and rejuvenated to enable them imbibe more knowledge with precision and skills. Students thereby find education a very pleasant ad enjoyable exercise.
These healthy practices enable the students to study better. It is compulsory for all students –from Std I to XII. Hence, It gives a sense of proper direction to the youth. The students are taken in batches to rooms that are conductive for Meditation and Yogasanas. They are therefore even more disciplines ad have self-control. It becomes a way of life a Kaligi.
Health and hygiene are given much importance, because cleanliness is next to Godliness! The senior students pay keen attention to these matters of concern. Students with exemplary performances in Sports or any other extra-curricular activities like Music etc will also be given scholarship.
Music is food for the soul. Children are encouraged to learn any instrument of their choice and get trained in any of the following-Carnatic vocal, Devotional Sloka Recital, Violin,Keyboard, Veena, Tabla, Mridangam, Flute, Drums. Experts are called to train in them in these recitals.
We do not fail to identify their talents! Choreography is their forte in fine arts. So is Dancing, Singing and winning trophies in the field of sports and games. It is really amazing to see how they bring back to Kaligi many a shield and trophy. The school is known for its specially talented music troupe and it is the most sought after troupe in Chennai.
Daily moments of prayer are a source of strength and keeps children from going astray. The morning assembly is well organized. Discipline and moments of silence are observed. They are trained so well that they are even called to perfoirm at public occasions and are paid for the same. Students can earn while they learn. Those who have specialized in vocals have won may Cups,Trophies and shields. The Choir participants in Inter-School competitions and public performances and bring many laurels to our institution.
